The old way and the new way

Hired help, or trusted advisor?

From 3-month projects to 3-year clients. Hired help gets scoped, paid by the day, and let go when the project ends. A trusted advisor is the person an owner calls first, and works with for years.

What the shift looks like

Daniel's story

“The owner originally wanted me to come in as a consultant… I sold him the coaching engagement.”

Small client win this week

I’ve been working for around 7-8 weeks with an owner-led operational business where the owner originally wanted me to come in as a consultant (which I'm trying to escape) to fix the role/responsibilities/team structure for him. I sold him the coaching engagement with an understanding to review if he still needs someone to come in once we get started.

I’ve been trying to hold the line that the real win is not me becoming the external fixer - it’s helping him get the structure, expectations and ownership out of his head and into the business.

… I had a mini-session while he was away and he said that the work we'd done (he did it) had made a massive difference.

He also said he’d told his wife that he could already feel the work had been worth it. Then when I said he'd just dipped his toes in the water, he replied 'I’m in'.

First paying client from my first campaign in just a week

Super chuffed. My first paying client is starting next week, straight from my first campaign. Two meetings in one week and done.

It may only last a few months to sort out their critical issue, but I’m on cloud nine for what might be.

I really thought about my list and my messaging, and went bespoke instead of using the sales pitch. Thank you to Zander and the BCA.

£9,000 per month for 1 day a week consulting

I’m consulting for a company in the medical device area, which fits my background. It’s just one day per week for £9,000 per month.

I’m having lots of fun and it fits perfectly with being retired while staying mentally active.

Wins ! 3 New Clients Today, 2 renewing in the last 3 days

Today was one of those days where the work behind the scenes starts to show. 2 new clients closed. 1 client renewed, with team support added in.

2 came through networking. 1 came through a client referral.

And last week, I also brought in a new small micro business client and another client renewed to monthly support.

The biggest win for me is not just the new business.

It's the pattern.

Networking is turning into conversations. Conversations are turning into clients. Client work is turning into referrals.

Existing clients are renewing and expanding.

That's the bit I'm most proud of.

Because growth is not just about getting new clients.

It's about building enough trust that people stay, refer, renew, and bring their team into the work.

Big reminder for me today:

Relationships compound when you keep showing up properly.

This has been my intention for the last 2 months,

Most exciting i have 5 more very strong opportunities / prospects in the next week them all booked.

Stay tuned!

Thanks to all community and team for the support, guidance and environment to learn and push myself.

Delivered My 1st Value Sessions today and signed both clients!

As Zander says, "I let it rain"! Both clients were from the automated marketing campaign, which I started at the beginning of March.

I completed a discovery call where I took copious amounts of notes, and then aligned the value session to their challenges.

I spent a lot of time preparing, and even had the opportunity to adapt my approach after the 1st value session this morning (my price pitch felt a little clunky 1st time round), so I perfected it for the 2nd value session.

The 1st client is not an Ideal Client for me. He is a one man band but desperately needed help with his value proposition and marketing.

The 2nd client is an Ideal Client and is at an exciting growth stage in their business but is still pulled in to firefighting.

He may want some consultancy support as well as business coaching, but it was the BOSS dashboard that sealed it for him. It's such a fantastic resource.

They both responded really well to the fact that I wasn't signing them in to a contract, and that I was confident about the value I could bring that they would want to continue our partnership.

I'm not the most patient of people, but I followed the guidance from BCA and it worked!

Now I move in to value delivery with these clients which is what I have been most excited about.

Thank you to the whole BCA team, but particularly @Pamela Woodford @Zander Woodford-Smith and @Mark James
